Anthropomorphic body sections with applications throughout the field of radiography. These skeletal parts, embedded in anatomically-accurate, tissue-equivalent material:

Eliminate unnecessary radiation exposure to human subjects.

Teach students anatomy and positioning.

May be used as qualitative QA standards.

Ideal for technique chart development.

Transparent and opaque models available.

Sectional phantoms, with the anatomic and radio fidelity of PIXY are used widely in teaching / training, with many other applications. They represent an average male (5 ft. 9 in. tall, 162 lbs.). They are rugged, easily transported and are virtually shatter-proof.

Sectional phantoms do not replace simple geometric phantoms used to evaluate individual characteristics of an imaging system, but they provide means for comprehensive evaluation of the imaging system and imaging techniques under realistic conditions, similar to those in patients. Typical applications are the same as PIXY.

The simulated X-Ray Sectional Phantoms consist of simulated bones embedded in transparent, non-granular plastic or opaque isocyanate rubber. The materials have the same absorption and secondary radiation-emitting characteristics as living tissue. They are homogeneous and cast shadows similar to those produced by tissue. There are no spongy portions in the phantoms. All bone marrow has been simulated with tissue-equivalent material, which permits critical detail study of bone structure and sharpness comparisons using x-rays.
